Early life
Beverly Heather D'Angelo was born on November 15, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio, USA. Her parents are violinist Priscilla Ruth (née Smith) and Eugene Constantino "Gene" D'Angelo, who worked at WBNS-tv as the television network manager and was also a bass player. Her father was of Italian descent, and of her four children, Beverly is the only girl. Her maternal grandfather is the architect Howard Dwight Smith, who designed Ohio Stadium, which has become known as the Horseshoe at Ohio State University.

Career
Before pursuing an interest in acting, Beverly worked as an illustrator at Hanna Barbara Studios before trying her hand at singing and briefly relocating to Canada, where she worked as a backing vocalist for The Hawks, the rockabilly singer's band Ronnie "Rompin" Hawkins.
D'Angelo began acting on Broadway in 1976 when she starred in "Rockabye Hamlet," a show based on "Hamlet" by Shakespeare, and also made her screen debut in Captains and the Kings that same year, a TV show -Miniseries in which she starred in three episodes.
Set in the 19th century, the story follows Irish immigrants and their rags to riches journey.
Beverly was then cast for a small role in the critically acclaimed 1977 film Annie Hall, a romantic comedy co-written and directed by Woody Allen. The film follows director Alvy Singer as he tries to understand why his relationship with the film's leading lady is falling apart, the lead role written specifically for actress Diane Keaton. The film was not officially released until April 1977, but screened once at the Los Angeles Film Festival the month before, receiving rave reviews and winning the Academy Award for Best Picture as well as awards in three other categories. Not only that, but he's also been honored with a Golden Globe and four BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards.
The film grossed more than $38 million and came in at #31ston the AFI list of the greatest films in American cinema, 4thon their list of the greatest comedy films, and Bravo ranked it at number 28ththe 100 funniest movies. They were also recognized by the Writers Guild of America for Funniest Screenplay Ever.
D'Angelo then appeared in a number of successful films during the 1970s, including "Hair," the story of a young Oklahoma farm hand who aspires to join the US Army, but on his way Sheila Franklin (played by D'Angelo) and find a way for the young couple to stay together with the help of a group of hippies.
She then played Echo in Every Which Way but Loose, the story of a boxer, played by Clint Eastwood, who travels to fights in the Midwest with his manager and an orangutan in tow, searching for his long-lost love.
In 1980, Beverly's performance as Patsy Cline in "Coal Miner's Daughter" earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress and won the Country Music Association Album of the Year award. The film is about a miner's daughter who is married at 15 and whose husband recognizes her great musical potential and encourages her to follow her calling. Chevy Chase's 1983 National Lampoon's Vacation saw D'Angelo's big break when she was cast as Ellen Griswold - the story follows a family, The Griswold's, who embark on a family vacation adventure to visit Walley World to get to Theme Park .

Of course, things don't go as the family had hoped as Clark Griswold is remembered as a blonde woman in a red Ferrari. The film had four sequels, and Beverly reprized her role in all of them.
"A Streetcar Named Desire" earned D'Angelo an Emmy nomination in 1984. The TV movie is about a woman named Blanche Dubois, a crazy, anxious woman who is desperate for a place to belong because she was shunned from her hometown after having an affair with a seventeen-year-old student at the school where she was an English teacher .
In 1992, Beverly added a voice actress to her resume when she "acted" as Lurleen Lumpkin in the episode titled "Colonel Homer" on The Simpsons season three as a waitress and country western singer. Sixteen years later, in 2008, she reprized her role in the eighteenth season in the episode titled "Papa Don't Leech."
In 1994, D'Angelo returned to the stage when she appeared in "Simpaticio," an Off-Broadway show for which she won a Theater World Award.
